Entrepreneurs: How To Destroy Negativity In Your Life

By Carlos Siqueira

Gary Vaynerchuck of Vayner Media [https://www.inc.com/jessica-stillman/gary-vaynerchuk-all-successful-entrepreneurs-have-these-5-traits.html] firmly believes that entrepreneurship is all about having a chip on your shoulder, an independent spirit, salesmanship, understanding the market, being creative, and to have the guts to set off on your own without wings.

Entrepreneurship is like jumping off a cliff without any equipment. It’s scary, it needs you to be patient, and it calls for everything good (and bad) about you to come to the surface on demand.

Being on your own gives you an immense sense of satisfaction. It brings out the best and worst of you, and it allows you to build something you'll be proud of.

No matter how larger than life entrepreneurship is made out to be, you're still human. You’ll have your challenges. You’ll fall. You’ll rise.

There will be days when you are on a high and there are days when you’ll hit the road.

The more you put a machine to use, the more it’s bound to wear out. You're super-charged entrepreneurial journey is no average jalopy; you’ll wear out soon and fast.

No one said it was going to be easy but there are things you could do to beat negativity that’s bound to creep into your life more often than you’d expect.

Here are ways to destroy any signs of negativity in your entrepreneurial journey:

Know, respect, and honor your purpose

I promised my grandfather just before he passed away, that I will strive to make a difference on this planet. You never know when the unexpected will happen so you must be mentally prepared at all times. 2016 was a very difficult year for my family because multiple members passed away. The following year started with tragic news as I lost the love of my life, my grandmother Maria Lucia. I remember talking to her to the phone with my daughter one week before she went into a coma. I couldn't remember the last time we carried a long conversation over the phone. We talked for hours, reminiscing about the past. She reminded me of how far we've come, growing up very poor, but grateful for everything we had. Little did I know this would be the last time I would ever be able to speak to her. I told her despite the tragic loss of some of our family members, I was going to stay strong and be the pillar of the family. If anything happens, I wanted to be the person everyone can count on. My elders weren't in the best shape. They had multiple health problems, mainly obesity. It was my job to make sure everyone was on the right track to avoid losing any more family members. I was going to lead by example and help them reawaken with their dreams intact, finish my projects, and keep it together. Even mentors need a mentor because at the end of the day, we are all human and as one of my mentors Tony Robbins told me, “If you are in your head, you are dead Carlos”.

What is your purpose?

I want you to think about your purpose for a moment. You took that big leap of faith. You already pushed yourself. You did what most people don’t, you came here to build something you are proud of. You want to make a difference. Now with that purpose intact, respect it, honor it, and remember it. Promise yourself that you won’t let anything stop you until you get to the point you wanted to reach. Giving up as my papa & mama would say, is "too darn easy".

Stay positive. Give yourself a pep talk.

You are unique and one of a kind, no one thinks or acts like you do, you're here for a reason. Out of 7 billion people in this planet, there is only 1 you. Honor the struggle and put your joy on steroids. Stop that little nagging voice that comes from inside you that has a nasty habit of rubbing fear all over you. But when? Whenever you have down time. You walk, stand, and wait in line for morning coffee. You probably have more time for self-introspection than you realized you would. Use that downtime and get into the habit of self-talk. Once you get here, there’s a simple rule you have to follow: Never let yourself down with self-defeating talk. Remember what is wrong is always available, so what is right? It's easy to stay in a negative state of mind and focus on everything that's going wrong. Don’t go there, shift your mind for anything that's going great for you. Reverse engineer the process of what is right and do that in every area of your life.

Surround yourself with positive people.

All those successful go-getters, achievers, millionaires, weren’t kidding when they believed that they’d become who they surrounded themselves with. Who you associate with determines the kinds of deals you make, the way your business is run, managed, and how successful you are likely to be. Make a list of people who inspire you. Chase influencers, find out who’s been there before you and made it to the top. Don’t let their “aura” stop you from reaching out to them. Find a mentor, write to influencers, talk to fellow entrepreneurs, and associate with people who have the potential to make a difference in your life. Never compare your chapter 1 with your mentor’s chapter 30. Remember that they were just like you.

Read and get inspired.

Quick question: What do Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Mark Cuban, Robert Herjavec, and many other self-made billionaires have in common? They are all voracious readers. Reading books, magazines, and staying on top of trends is one of the most common habits of all people who are successful by any measure. Reading is easily the most under-rated habit in the world and you will be better than 85% of the world’s population if you get into the habit of reading. Reading also envelops you into a frame of positivity and inspiration. If you occupy all of those hours you don’t work with reading, you won't have time to feel negative at all.

As an entrepreneur, you already have a lot on your plate on top of running a business. Negativity will kill and thwart your efforts to get anywhere. Negativity in your personal life is like bad debt – it never lets you get ahead.

What do you think are excellent ways to keep negativity out? Tell me all about it, I'd love to hear your input.
