SOMETHING TO CONSIDER:
We share the importance of "mentoring" but what really does mentoring mean? Well it means "an experienced and trusted adviser". BUT consider this an online instructor is not a mentor, tough but in some ways true. Here is a challenge, an online course is not designed to be a mentoring opportunity, there is a MUCH HIGHER level of commitment needed on the part of the Instructor. The idea of taking a course is not advice but actual learning. As an instructor your "GOAL" will be to 'empower' the student by doing TWO THINGS:
ONE: Create a higher level of confidence in the student. You Will Change the World is NOT A PLACE where people show others how smart "they are" but rather where we encourage others to really grasp and understand concepts so they can become as smart as "THEY WANT TO BE." So when your building your course it is about creating CONFIDENCE in the student so they feel as if they can "MOVE FORWARD."
TWO: Leave everyone with a SIMPLE ACTION PLAN that they can follow. Nothing is worse then creating confidence JUST TO WATCH people fail because they were given a bad plan or no plan. You need to make sure if you are an online instructor that you are leaving them with a plan. This plan should be well designed and executable in simple stages that will encourage and strengthen the students understanding about the subject. It should also engage all modalities and senses.
So often I see online courses that are actually LONG BORING LECTURES. Instructors very often 'pontificate' for hours over multiple lessons.
ALWAYS REMEMBER it is about the encouragement and advancement of those who are "BRAVE ENOUGH & VULNERABLE " enough to seek guidance, resources and help. your course is designed for those looking to INVEST IN THEMSELVES so you must invest in creating something worthwhile and COMPLETE!
